Reach Cambridge August 10: Day 10

This weekend we welcomed five school groups alongside those students who arrived last week. These were the Hwa Chong Institute and Meridian Junior College from Singapore, Bina Bangsa from Indonesia, The Cathedral & John Connon School from India, and the Beijing New Talent Academy from China. All the groups have settled in well and got into the spirit of Reach Cambridge!
Today lessons began, with students taking university-style classes in a variety of different subjects. These included Maths, Psychology, and Economics, to name but a few. For the school groups that arrived at the weekend, these lessons provided students with their first impressions of university life, and during their breaks they were able to explore the city for the first time.
In the afternoon, we participated in a number of activities. Some chose to enjoy the sunny weather and play sports, while others helped prepare for the World Fair taking place tomorrow, during which they will represent different aspects of their home countries’ cultures. Finally, another group were taken punting, an old tradition of Cambridge during which people go boating on the River Cam and enjoy many of the colleges’ gardens and architecture.
As the day drew to a close, most students attended a lecture focusing on economics, which was then followed by a number of icebreaker activities to help integrate our new school groups into our community. It has been a busy day but certainly extremely rewarding!
