Summer 2024: Program 1 - Day 4

As the week of academic classes has come to a close, the students can now turn their attention to the busy weekend ahead. But before the exciting excursions over the coming days, students had the opportunity to take part in a must-do activity in Cambridge: Punting! Punting has been a recreational mode of transport in Cambridge for around 200 years, and is a great way to see the city’s stunning architecture.Students took to the water, gliding through the colleges on the tranquil water of the River Cam, with trained tour guides sharing their best facts!

With better weather today, the students were able to spend the rest of their afternoon chilling on the college grounds, and taking some downtime. Students also had a great chance to gain exclusive access to other colleges, as Cambridge University open days took place around the city, offering students insight into life as a Cambridge undergraduate!

Our second batch of taster courses also kicked off today, with four exciting courses taking place. Whilst some students admired the colleges from the water, others were able to think about the theory behind the great colleges during the Architecture course! Or students could try their hand at the Young Leaders course, delve into History and Politics, and learn about being the first one on the scene during the Pre- Hospital and Emergency Medicine course. But fear not, students unable to experience punting due to their hard work during the taster courses, will be able to hop in a boat and cruise along the river this Saturday!

After a chilled afternoon on the river and another hearty college dinner, the students were full of energy, and hungry for sports! With no evening lecture tonight, students had extra time to make the most of the weather. As the spirit of the Euros continued, yesterday’s enthusiasm for football was satisfied, as the students gathered at the sports field to get things kicked off with a passionate match! Alongside the ever popular football, students were able to make use of the  basketball and tennis facilities, for an evening of sporting fun. Or for the avid quizzers, we hosted the popular International Quiz, with questions about culture, sport, music and food from all over the world. Students had their knowledge put to their test, as they battled it out in teams to win points for Ice and Fire!

Looking ahead to tomorrow, students are in for a treat as we head off to the home of Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon, before taking a trip to Warwick Castle. This excursion is such a hit each year, and we cannot wait for this year’s cohort to see the charm and delight of Shakespeare’s town, as well as the majestic Warwick Castle, both enriched with English history!

Come back tomorrow to hear all about the excursion day, and check out our Instagram and Tiktok for more daily updates! (@reachcambridge)
