Today was another busy day in the Reach diary. The students attended lessons as normal in the morning, before making their way to Downing College for the group photograph! The Biotechnology class took part in a laboratory experiment in the afternoon that involved them isolating a gene commonly found in jellyfish. The gene enables the animal to glow in the dark, and enabled the class to learn about medical advances in genetics. The law class also went on a trip punting down the River Cam. This was a very relaxing excursion, with an on board tour guide. After the punt, the students embarked on a detailed tour of the university and its many colleges. They were very interested to learn about the famous alumni of the colleges, and their rich history.
University applications was the subject of the evening lecture, given by supervisors Lewis, Carl and Abigail. This was aimed at exploring the many different options for life after school, as well as advice and helpful tips about the application process itself. After the lecture, the World Fair was the main attraction in the evening. This gave students a chance to celebrate their nationality, and learn about other cultures. Students prepared presentations, posters, pictures, and even brought food to try! The fair provided quite a spread which all got eaten very quickly by the students.
