Day Seven: Community Outreach

All week, the Global Leaders students have been taking part in the Community Outreach program. We work with the charity SABRE, an education charity working in rural Ghana to build schools and train teachers. After hearing about the charity at the beginning of the week, the students have been planning ways to fundraise, which culminated in an afternoon of activities. Events ranged from sponsored activities, like a day of silence and carrying water around Cambridge’s city centre, to getting local businesses to donate items for the charity auction, and presentations and films. It was amazing to see the student’s dedication to highlighting the work of this important charity, and their organisation and enthusiasm made it a really successful and fun afternoon. The last evening of the Global Leaders program was celebrated in style with a pizza party on the paddock in Downing College, followed by a presentation as each of  the supervisors presented their supervisees with a certificate. It was a lovely opportunity to congratulate all of the students for working so hard, but we also took the opportunity to thank Lauren and Pete who had organised and coordinated the program. After this, everyone headed to the local bowling alley. There were some very talented bowlers, and the staff even had a go! It was nice to have everyone together one last time as a few of the students were going home the next day, and over the weekend we are going to be joined by a number of school groups.
