Day Five: CV/ interview practice and summer school disco

Not often do you wake up, have breakfast, then find yourself a few minutes later in a rounders game! However, that’s how day five started for some of us. At 9am, I took half the students with supervisors Billy and Lewis to the Downing Paddock where we set up a game of rounders, initially, supervisors and students alike were half asleep, but after the first “big hit” we all woke up! The game ended up being really fun thanks to the weather and the competitive nature of many of the students. After the rounders game, some stayed on the paddock to play Frisbee, others played tennis and I joined a group playing basketball. I really enjoyed playing basketball with the kids. We made 3 teams of 5 people and had the winners stay on. When we were all too tired to play games anymore, we played H.O.R.S.E and knock-out. After dinner, supervisor Lewis led a CV/ interview workshop with the hopes of increasing the student’s interview skills, and their ability to “Sell themselves” in any job or university position they apply for. The student’s found this very amusing and were quick to spot all the mistakes being made. In the evening students went to the summer school disco in Cambridge. The students were met with kids from other summer schools in the town centre and seemed to have a great time! Despite the very energetic morning playing sports, students still seemed to have plenty of energy to dance and have fun. Written by Timothy, Supervisor
