Day 7
Another day another excursion!
To continue the studious theme of our trips so far, we thought it fitting to take our students to explore London and its fantastic and diverse set of museums in South Kensington, ranging from the Science Museum, to the Natural History Museum and to the V&A. A lot of students had been told to look out for things in these museums by their teachers over the last week, so it was really lovely to see how enthusiastic they were about the trip as well as how much they have enjoyed their lessons.
A choice between these three museums was hard to make! The Natural History Museum, an architectural masterpiece, was extremely difficult to say no to. As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by the gigantic skeleton of a Diplodocus in the central hall, setting the stage for an educational journey through the history of life on Earth. The museum’s vast collection of fossils, minerals, and animal specimens captivated students and staff alike: we even had the opportunity to interact with some fascinating hands-on displays that taught us about various geological processes. The passionate museum staff provided us with insightful explanations, making the experience even more enriching.
Some of our students decided to go to the Science Museum. It boasts an impressively wide array of interactive exhibits, showcasing the marvels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We eagerly delved into the realms of space exploration, witnessing actual spacecraft and satellites that have journeyed beyond our planet. In the “Wonderlab”, we conducted thrilling experiments, learned about physics phenomena, and witnessed spectacular demonstrations by the museum’s enthusiastic science communicators.
Last, some students decided to go to the prestigious Victoria & Albert museum, which houses an extraordinary collection of art and design spanning centuries and cultures. Stepping into this world of creativity was truly inspiring and our students all had lots of fun. We admired the intricate craftsmanship of historic artefacts, marvelled at the exquisite sculptures, and appreciated the diverse range of paintings. The V&A also had dedicated sections showcasing fashion, textiles and contemporary design, giving us a glimpse into the evolution of stye and innovation.
The day did not stop! When we all got back from a busy day in London, some still had bundles of energy that could only be expended on the beautiful Downing Paddocks for some sports, whilst others took part in a Just Dance tournament with friends. Finally, some students prepared for the World Fair. We are really excited about this – it is a chance for the students to prepare a short presentation to their peers and staff about where they’re from and their different cultures.
This has been SUCH a good week and we’re really looking forward to the next one! Remember to find more pictures and videos of what everyone is getting up to on our social media: @reachcambridge
