Summer 2022: Program 1 - Day 9

Medicine students learning about the circulatory system

The second week of Reach Cambridge Program 1 began with a beautiful sunny morning which continued throughout the day! After yesterday’s exciting excursions to London, students were back in lessons, many of which went outside to enjoy the weather as they learnt. Highlights of this morning’s classes include practical experiments from Medicine and Life Sciences where students analysed the cardiovascular system as well as the Physics class, who went into the gardens of Sidney Sussex College to measure acceleration due to gravity. This morning also saw some of the classes come together, resulting in students engaging in discussions reaching across their disciplines. Politics and International Relations debated on how to build the ideal state alongside Philosophy, and Business joined together with Language Global Leadership to learn how to lead negotiations. Interdisciplinary lessons allow students to see their subject from another angle and develop ideas they may not have initially thought of, which is brilliant to see!

In the afternoon, students went on punting tours of the River Cam – an iconic Cambridge experience! The river travels up the west side of the city and passes many colleges, allowing the students to find out more about Cambridge life. Some students took part in taster courses this afternoon, enjoying an insight into study skills, music composition, and how to be a young leader. These students will have the opportunity to go punting later this week!

Activities in the evening consisted of sports and Switch night, where students had the option to relax with their friends and play games or to further explore and enjoy the city. Going in to the second half of Program 1, students are engaged and excited to get up to more fun activities in their final week at Reach.
