Spring 2019: Day 12

The students were up early again today, and after a continental breakfast they headed off to their subject-specific classes. In medicine the students learned about the medical process of surgical suturing, which in used in the medical profession to stitch body tissues (in our case, a banana) together with a needle and thread. In Politics and International Relations, our students were learning about the civil rights movement in America and how this related to movements within their own countries. Our economics students learned about game theory and looked at real life examples. We all then had a British classic for lunch at Reach Hall, jacket potatoes with all sorts of yummy fillings! Students used some time in their lunch break to work on their presentations. Jenny led a fantastic interview skill workshop this afternoon, where they learned different styles of interviews, a range of techniques and the art of positive body language. The students were then given the opportunity to sign up for a practice interview. It was great to see that all the students have been inspired to put themselves forward for an academic or career interview. Students then had the opportunity to spend their last afternoon in the city centre, purchasing souvenirs and gifts for themselves and their loved ones. Supervisor Poppy also led a visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum, an art and antiquities museum owned by the University of Cambridge. For dinner this evening, the students had the opportunity to sample the Cambridge restaurants of their choice. The group was equally split between burgers, sushi, and Nando’s! After dinner, the students were able to have some well-deserved down time, with lots of students opting to play cards and board games or finish practising their presentations, before settling down after a long day to watch Madagascar! After another fantastic and jam packed day at Reach, the alarms are set for tomorrow morning because we are getting up early for our last full day of the Spring program!
