Bollywood Dancing!

The first Bollywood dance class was just intended as a taster for newbies to the wondrous hip shaking moves native to the Indian subcontinent. But it turns out that Reach already has many natural Bollywood dancers among its midst! Besides the hip shaking moves, the students learned the classic ‘turning the light bulb’ as well as other Bhangra moves. Many of the students, keen to pursue their newly found talent, decided to perform a dance routine at the Reach Talent Show. The routine, choreographed by one of the supervisors, was to the song ‘Desi Girl’ from the Bollywood film ‘Dostana,’ which coincidentally features a cameo by a friend of one of the Reach supervisors! Eager and enthusiastic to learn, the students (and some very keen supervisors!) learned the routine in just two practice sessions, even mastering the classic ‘hand clock’ move. At the talent show, the dance was met with rapturous applause and really concluded the night with a bang! Not only was the technique and grace of the dancers appreciated, but also the comic value added by the boys shaking their hips too! It was great to see so many students get involved with this activity, both boys and girls, and especially to see how dancing gave some students the confidence to come out of their shells and truly enjoy and make the most of their time here at Reach. We can’t wait to see the amazing talents that next summer’s group have got to show!
