On Tuesday we, the community outreach team students, met in the lecture theatre for our first meeting, the aim of which was to introduce ourselves and come up with some ideas for the next 2 and a half weeks. We tried to come up with the best ways to raise money for an NGO named The Sabre Charitable Trust, which aims to improve kindergarten education in Ghana.
The day before our meeting Tom Malcolm Green, who works for Sabre, presented to all of the Reach Cambridge students what Sabre do and why it is so worthwhile. Here is a list of the fundraising events that we have come up with after his lecture:
– A charity auction.
– A football tournament.
– Sponsored challenges such as water carrying which will take place all around town.
– A charity day on the afternoon of the 20th: We will have Ghanaian music, face painting, henna tattoos, a Tombola, mask decorating and much more!
With all the money raised from these events, we will provide the funds to help Sabre improve the education of those people less fortunate than ourselves in Ghana. This amazing opportunity is not only a chance to help these people but also to enjoy ourselves whilst making a positive change.
We have set up an online fundraising page through VirginMoneyGiving. VirginMoneyGiving provides an internationally accessible online fund raising platform for charitable giving.
