Spring 2018: Day 3

Our students really experienced all that Cambridge has to offer on this bright, beautiful sunshine day! The day started off with a traditional cooked breakfast in a local restaurant, followed by another morning of subject classes. Highlights from the subject classes today included anatomy and dissection in both Psychology and Life Sciences and Medicine, as well as bridge-building and structural engineering in Physics & Engineering.   After class, students soaked up the sun on their walk into the city centre and enjoyed some free time for lunch: many students enjoyed sampling the international food stalls in the historical market in Market Square. Thus followed an exceptionally exciting and informative tour of Cambridge and its famous University. The students were shown some of the oldest and most famous Colleges, and given brief snippets of history and hearsay surrounding some of the key figures and moments in time at this prestigious University. Highlights included showing students where Watson and Crick discovered DNA and being told where Lord Byron kept his bear as a student. Scott – a King’s College alumnus – loved showing the students his old College and shared with them an insight into life as a Cambridge student, as well as a brief overview of the famous King’s College Chapel and choir.

Enjoying Punting on River Cam

Following the tour, the students then had time for sport on Christ’s Pieces – a pretty parkland adjacent to the Colleges. There was then time to finish off this memorable afternoon with punting along the River Cam. Punting is an age-old tradition here at Cambridge, and students sat in a wide-bottomed boat and chauffeured along the river in style. Along the way, students were given an insight into more Cambridge history, and shown an unparalleled view of the beautiful architecture of this inspiring University City. The day was then topped off with pizza and a lecture and workshop dedicated to University Applications and University Life. Phew – what a day! Now it’s time for rest in preparation for our trip to London tomorrow.
