Welcome back to the second full day of the program! After breakfast in their new homes, the students were guided to their classrooms, ready for day two of their new classes. As they began to feel fully settled into their classes, the students were told what the rest of the day had in store.
A wetter afternoon in Cambridge gave way to some more chilled activities for the students, with sports on hold until tomorrow. We put on a postcard making session, where students could design and decorate postcards to keep as mementos, or send back home to you!
Today also saw the start of the Taster Courses, where students get the chance to try out something new for a couple days, as a supplement to their regular morning classes. This week’s courses include Psychology, Introduction to Coding, Creative Writing, and Philosophy/ Ethics.
After dinner in the colleges, the students gathered for the evening’s activities. In preparation for the interdisciplinary day later in the week, they participated in an incredibly interactive and engaging lecture on debating skills, delivered by Reach’s English and Creative Writing teacher. Courageous volunteers took turns speaking on a random topic for 60 seconds without stuttering, pausing, or using filler words—an exercise easier said than done for most. Some of the randomly generated words included “king,” “chest,” “photo,” and “lab.” The students demonstrated their impressive speaking abilities, skillfully persuading the audience or thoughtfully describing their given subjects.
Students then had the chance to showcase their vocal talents at Karaoke night, belting out various hits and sharing their favourite tunes! Board games night was also a hit, with students diving into various games and enjoying an evening of friendly competition. Some students even carried on the speaking activity from the lecture- the atmosphere inside the colleges was buzzing!
