Reach Day 2: Brains, Brekkie, Brecht, Books, BBQ and Ball Sports
It was Tuesday morning and the sun was shining. The students kicked off their second day at Reach with a delicious breakfast in our stunning college halls. Whether it be the mouth-watering pastries, the flavoursome fruits or the buoyant baked beans, our impressive breakfast selection had the students ready and raring to start their day, and Gordon Ramsay shaking in his boots.
As morning turned to afternoon, our future physicists, entrepreneurs, medics, lawyers and authors began their world takeover. We saw them engaging their brains, throwing themselves into a range of practicals and sharing their ideas: in each classroom there were truly inspiring scenes of creativity, enthusiasm and innovation!
Reaching for the stars, climbing every mountain higher, and following their hearts desires, the students dipped their toes in our day two Afternoon Activities. For our first, we were lucky enough to have an incredible Youth Theatre workshop, hosted by the 3x Oscar winning actress, the one and the only…our very own Kasia Truscott! After improvisation exercises, monologue work and energy games (including a thrilling game of Zip-Zap Boing) our students were ready for the red carpet. Other students embarked on a bookshop tour in the heart of Cambridge, spanning from G David, to Heffers, to Cambridge University Press (the world’s oldest publishing house, founded in 1584!).
The clock struck 6pm and it was time for our well anticipated BBQ at Fenners Cricket Ground!! The atmosphere? Absolutely electric. The potato salad? To-die for. The vibes? Immaculate. After another Michelin star meal, the students began their Olympic level training sessions in a range of ball sports, from cricket, to tennis, to rounders. With smiles all around and friendships formed, Reach day two truly was monumental.
