Summer 2022: Program 2 - Day 6

It’s finally Excursion day and we are off to Hampton Court Palace in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, only 12 miles south west of the River Thames! Before even arriving, us supervisors in particular were absolutely buzzing to get to Hampton Court, as for many of us it is a childhood memory of a fun day out and we were so excited to share it with our fellow students! We began our day bright and early with a snappy breakfast before making our way for the 2 hour couch drive. Once we arrived, everyone had time to explore the palace, great hall, stunning gardens and even Henry VIII’s kitchen – the grand kitchen did make us all a bit peckish, luckily ice cream was available and we all bought some in a flash! Sitting in the magnificent Hampton Court Gardens, nibbling our ice cream and taking in the view was the perfect Friday vibe we all needed!

Some of the great highlights of this trip were definitely William III’s Apartments and the Chapel which were incredibly ornate. Students were gobsmacked at the intricate detail of the architecture and interior – a perfect picture opportunity if you ask me! The Garden Maze was also a hit for students, many taking their chances to race and see who could find their way out first! It was no easy feat but we all had a blast trying our best, and that is what matters.

After we made our way back to the familiar Cambridge city, activities were on at Downing College. Sports and arts & crafts were available for students to cool down after an exciting day at Hampton! It seemed like the best way to relax at the beautiful greens of Cambridge before heading to bed, excited for their second excursion on Sunday to London!
