A bright & sunny first full day of the program!
Monday morning saw the start of lessons for our Program 1 students. In 14 different classrooms, students had the opportunity to learn from our incredible teachers and were so enthusiastic about their subjects! All the teachers noted how eager the students were to ask questions and share their ideas and opinions, all of which led to some great discussions across the various classes. The Reach Cambridge courses covered an array of different subjects, from Astrophysics where the students discussed the politics and ethics of space flight, to analysing traits and characteristics in relation to careers in Psychology, and everything in between!
Having finished the first day of classes and looking forward to learning even more in the next two weeks, our students explored Cambridge during lunch time. The city is filled with places to eat, with popular British chains as well as independent cafés and stalls in Market Square which offer a great insight into the variety in culture the city prides itself on. Students continued to delve into Cambridge through our famous scavenger hunt, the Instravaganza! The challenge led students around well-known places in the city such as Senate House, the Corpus Clock, King’s Parade and The Eagle as they took photos and uploaded them using #reachcambridge2022 onto Instagram! The winning group will soon be revealed…
In the evening, Alannah, one of Reach’s Programme Coordinators, gave an insightful talk on university life, providing students with an overview of the university application system, and an idea of the incredibly large variety of courses universities in the UK offer (did you know surf science is a real degree?). After a reminder of the inspiring taster courses beginning tomorrow which will allow them to gain experience and have fun in more subjects they are interested in, students followed their supervisors to Downing Paddock for more ice breakers and healthy competition!
We cannot wait to continue getting to know these brilliant students, and to give them an amazing experience in Cambridge! Their enthusiasm and energy is incredible to see and we are so excited to share with them everything we have planned over the next two weeks.
Look out for more updates tomorrow!
