2018 student-to-be Fabrina is coming from Brazil to study Physics & Astronomy in July. In this guest blog, Fabrina reflects on the importance of friendship, as well as what she’s most looking forward to about joining Reach Cambridge.
One time I saw an article on research from the University of Harvard which says people with no friends die much sooner than those with strong bonds of affection. It might look strange the fact of having friends can affect someone’s physical health, but this is concrete and proven by many scientists. The thing is that having friends is not just having someone we can talk or party with, it is to have someone by our side to share secrets, insecurity feelings, achievements, dreams and those embarrassing moments that are always there to remember and laugh at again. To have a friend makes us feel welcomed and reminds us there are people like us in the world. This makes us feel better and happy. Therefore, to me, friendship is one of the most important things in life.
And this is one of the main reasons why I really want to spend the summer studying in Reach Cambridge. In an environment surrounded by students from all over the world with different histories and customs, there is no better place to meet people and make friends. I will have the opportunity to know about other cultures, discuss current social problems of the countries, share dreams and create new ideas and solutions together. Thus, this is one of the most enriching experiences I can ever have.
Besides this, by taking classes on Physics & Astronomy, I aim to know more about the universe and the new astronomy discoveries, with great teachers and students that, just like me, love to learn more and more about this marvellous and unknown thing. And with it, I intend to finally decide if astrophysics really is what I want to study in the university. Also, I am fascinated by the possibility of visiting the buildings of Cambridge with their beautiful and enchanting architecture; learn more about England’s history and play the football that I have so much heard about!
In summary, I have always been dreaming about travelling to England. I will study, make friends, have fun and live in a completely different reality from where I live in Brazil, which I am certain is going to change my view of the world and improve myself both academically and personally, making me more confident, multicultural and ready for being a young ambassador in today’s society. In this program I am sure I will have one of the best experiences of my life, so I cannot wait for it.
We can’t wait either, Fabrina – see you soon!
